Digital media learning x social enterprise support x targeted currency = awesome?

0

I just thought of a currency and learning platform for matching people who are doing digital media projects on low $ budget with people who are learning web/graphic design, software coding, film editing, animation etc. So the designers get credits when they do pro-bono work for the projects that need help, and they can spend these credits to take a course from a more advanced student to increase their skills. You would also receive credits for teaching a class. Then, as the designers start getting paid jobs, they can spend their credits on their way out of the system to get help from emerging students, which increases their profit and gives new students a chance to learn!

Perhaps we would want to curate the projects that receive the support at first, and then move toward building vetting and reputation systems for projects. Or perhaps each project would need at least two designers to champion it. Or maybe it could just be totally open. It would be cool to have a social innovation focus for the projects, which would require some kind of vetting system. Might want to talk to the folks at P2PU about this….

Hub Summer School in Amsterdam

0

I spent the last week or so in Amsterdam, and enjoyed working from the Hub there. Over the summer, they are hosting a constant stream of workshops aimed at sharing all of the knowledge, experience, wisdom and talent in the Hub community. I attended two workshops- one on strategic sustainability and one on dance as a tool for social change! I worked on the harvesting team for the strategic sustainability workshop. “Harvesting” means documenting and synthesizing the content of a conversation, workshop or meeting. I took notes on the whiteboard during the workshop, took pictures, and put together a PDF reporting on the highlights and headlines.

The Hub Summer School is just the kind of knowledge-sharing opportunity that interests me in helping to create a Hub in Seattle. First, we need a physical space where people can work together to create a better world. Once we have that space, we have the opportunity to share techniques, keep each other up-to-date on the latest social innovations, and support one another in developing masterful agents of change. Hub Summer School extends the stimulating intellectual environment of college into the workplace. Its almost like having a conference going on at your workplace all the time, but spread out over a few months. This way, you can attend all the events if you like, and you’ll have time to digest the content and really connect with other teachers and learners.
